The War Has Begun - Waren Story Review

03/14/2013 11:29:12

Waren Story went into its long-awaited open beta last week. It's a happy time for this game, since it has found a new, reliable host under Gplayon and can now realize its potential. Waren Story is a bit behind the times at this point, but it is an interesting game and warrants an examination. Immerse yourself in the war between the forces of the orc king, Vikan, and the allied forces of light.

Don't expect too much since the game is still in beta, though it may still surprise you. The world is currently very linear, but this also makes it a very easy game to pick up. New players are welcomed by a nice community that will be glad to answer any questions you have, and they start off with a round of quests detailing the NPCs encountered in the first town. If you go along with these quests you will receive numerous free goodies, including a mount which will help speed up your advancement throughout the game. You will be riding with the best of them in no time.

Make sure to bring friends to share in the action and take advantage of the four unique classes that are currently available. You can choose from the warrior, the brawler, the archer, or the gunner to take down everything that stands in your way. There is no magic class available at this time for healing or fireballs, but with your support they are sure to add one in due time. If your friends don't want to play Waren Story, there are still options for you. You can hire up to four mercenaries which will both fight and level up with you, making fights much easier. Enemy monsters will also occasionally become item drops when killed, enabling you to pick them up and make them fight for you until they die. No reason to go it alone.

One of the coolest features of Waren Story is its many war modes. On scheduled times, you will be invited to join in an array of different battles. These scale from smaller regular wars, which are simple death matches between red and blue teams, to massive guild wars and castle conquests. There are also Annihilation wars, where you work with your fellow man to strike down huge hordes of monsters for loot and honor. By participating in these events, you will build up honor points which you can use to acquire some helpful items and prove your dedication. Work hard to build up your character in the story and then blast away the competition in PvP!

Of course, if you are like me, you may want to know how exciting the actual fighting can be.  Well, each class features their own, reasonably-sized skill tree which holds all active, passive, and buff skills. These have well made animations and respectable graphical effects, which aid the game's otherwise drab visuals. Many enemies, especially in PvP, will usually pile onto you all at once, so having extra mercenaries and party members is a great idea to help draw the fire. Mercenaries aren't allowed in PvP, but you will absorb a percentage of their stats for yourself, so strength in numbers is always advised.

Once you hit level 90, you will also have access to the gigantic guardian avatar! This feature requires quite a bit of work to obtain, however it comes packaged with a nice sense of satisfaction once you do. Unleashing the guardian will massively increase your stats and physical size, helping you to annihilate the competition in a more succinct fashion. Go the distance and your patience shall be rewarded.

There are quite a few smaller, neat additions to the gameplay that make the whole experience smoother. You will eventually gain access to Auto Hunt, which lets you hunt monsters without your guidance. Using this system, you can keep farming even if you aren't at your computer and still be able to keep all of your loot. There is also a dash skill on all classes that enables you to sprint. This skill is even usable on horseback, so make sure to put a skill point into it early. Last but not least, you can profess your love to that special someone and get married in the game. How sweet!

Waren Story is a pretty good game to play to pass the time, but it requires that you stick with it to get the most out of it. If you're willing to put the time in, this game will make it worth your while. It may start off fairly slowly, but with the possibility of driving siege vessels, donning amazing guardian armor, or even getting married you may be pleasantly surprised by what this game has to offer. Why not give it a chance?
